Each year, a selection of works screened during Fantafestival compete for Best Feature Film and Best Short Film. Additional categories may be added each year, and will be announced as needed.

Starting from 2012, the award of the Fantafestival is the Golden Bat.
To submit a work, one of the two festival’s platforms must be used: FilmFreeway or FestHome. Fantafestival does not accept works sent directly to the staff. The final submission date is indicated directly on the platforms.
The submission fee may vary from year to year and it’s indicated directly on the platforms. Fantafestival has always had very low submission fees, generally lower than the average of other similar festivals. For this reason the festival’s policy is not to offer any waiver.
Fantafestival accepts feature films, short films, documentaries, music videos and other works belonging to the fantastic genre: horror, science fiction, fantasy and similar genres. The works must be unpublished, i.e. not already available online on a platform (free or paid), and must not have been screened publicly in cinemas or on TV. Works that have only been screened in other festivals are accepted.
All the works received are scrupulously watched by a selection committee which expresses a first choice on the basis of which the definitive programme of the festival is prepared. All participants will receive a notification from the platform indicating whether the work has been selected or not. All the members of the staff and of the selection committee are indicated on this page.
A jury of qualified professional of the fantastic genre decides the winning works in the various categories. The members of the jury, different for each edition, are indicated on the festival socials and website.
